you are enough

One perk (and minor annoyance) to being a stay-at-home mama, is that I rarely pay attention to the date. Did you know that Christmas is in five days? I didn’t, until yesterday that is. I honestly thought I had another week of preparation. Whoopsie doodles.

Last night, when I should have been doing one of 5,000 things on my to-do list, or perhaps more practical, sleeping, I stitched up this little piece while watching Home Alone. I needed to do it. I had to remind myself that I am truly enough, just as I am, right now, in this moment. Our home, even in its current disheveled state, is enough. The contents of our fridge and pantry, are enough. It is unrealistic to think that I have time to make all of the handmade gift ideas that I have swimming around in my head, create a plethora of lovely handmade holiday items for our home, and also have time to partake in the numerous holiday festivities that we want to attend. It’s just not possible. And you know something? That’s okay. I might still have 5,000 things left to do, but now it’s about prioritizing those and letting go of the unnecessary, so that I might truly enjoy what’s left of this holiday season. Because that’s what it’s all about.

I wish you all health and happiness this holiday season, from my family, to yours.

And if you’re feeling bogged down or stressed out, please realize, that you are enough.

spring kcwc and some links

Meg is hosting yet another Kids Clothes Week Challenge next week, May 9-15. I participated for the first time last fall, and Turkey’s pants were one of the featured creations.

The stack above is waiting in anticipation to be whipped up into something fabulous, however considering I’ve sewn only once in the past two months, I’m a bit nervous to jump back on the wagon. That attitude seems lame though, so I’m planning to participate; whether or not that culminates in a finished garment is yet to be seen. Will you be participating?

Over the past week or so I’ve embroidered four lovely designs from Penguin & Fish. Oh I love these designs! So simple, over-the-top adorable, and the perfect small project to jump back into embroidery; a craft I’ve also been neglecting, but just adore. I hope to finish the project I’m working on soon and can’t wait to show it off. The patterns are definitely the most expensive that I’ve bought, so expect to see them used in more ways than one.

And here are some lovely links that I’ve stumbled upon from across the Web:

Have you found anything particularly inspiring from around the Web lately?

P.S. – There are a few days left to enter the anniversary giveaway.

bookmarked: part I

While not the sexiest topic, one of the tasks I recently completed was organizing my bookmarks. Part of my organizing kick I suppose. This might not seem monumental, but I had hundreds, if not thousands of unorganized, random things bookmarked across the web. And I went through each and every one, renaming them to make sense, and filing them away in appropriately named folders. Not an easy task! I thought I’d share with you some of the items I have bookmarked over the past year:

Crafty/DIY

Tiny Birch Bark Canoe Tutorial

Build Your Own Clothesline. Right Now.

Turn Old Paperbacks into Custom Hardbacks

I’ll be back soon with more links in other categories! Now to find the motivation to organize my photos…

adventures in embroidery

Awhile back I finished two embroidery projects that I haven’t yet shared with you. This is one of my favorite tea towels to date and I’m so happy that I gave it a good home. I used mirrored flower images from Tigerpup’s Power Flowers pattern. I just really enjoy the happiness of all her designs (like the clouds!). They are always bubbly and cheery and fun to stitch up.

The second is a companion tea towel (surprise!) to the pineapple tea towel I embroidered earlier this fall. The set will be a nice little birthday gift for a special someone this spring. I know. I’m ahead of the game on this one which I assure you is beyond bizarre. Please forgive the crappiness of the photos.

I have several other embroidered projects lined up and hope to get started on them soon. I’ve just been so into sewing lately that it’s hard for me to think about much else! To end this post, I thought I’d share with you a few fantastic crafty and embroidery links that I’ve enjoyed lately.

Hope you are all having a fabulous week thus far! I’d love to hear how you are, what you ate for breakfast, if you’ve read anything cool lately. Whatever really. My blog reading time has been next to zilch lately and I’m feeling out-of-touch!

brown paper packages tied up with string

Brown paper packages tied up with string; oh yes, this is one of my favorite things.

If, like me, you forget to bring your reusable grocery bags to the store from time to time, I bet you have a few paper bags lying around. What better way to re-purpose it than to use it for wrapping a present? From Thanksgiving to New Years Day an additional one million tons of waste from ribbons, gift wrappings, grocery bags and the like is added to the landfill – per week. Dang. Even more reason to purchase biodegradable gift wrap or wrap made from recycled materials (or simply re-purpose those paper bags, newspapers, fabric, etc.)…and then recycle or reuse them!

So what’s in the package? I’ll get to that, but first, how cute is the nautical clam shell gift tag? Here are a few others I’ve made:

In two weeks I’ve made about 400 gift tags. Four. Hundred. I used leftover card stock from our wedding menus and a lot of re-used ribbon, so each tag is a bit sentimental. My sister and I will be selling our wares at the Santa Mouse Holiday Craft Baazar in Silverton, Oregon on Saturday, December 4th from 9:30am-4:00pm (proceeds from the cost of vendor’s tables goes toward the high school’s Special Education class). And speaking of craft fairs, don’t forget about Crafty Wonderland Portland peeps!

In addition to the craft fair this year, they also have a fabulous little pop-up shop downtown. We went on opening weekend and I fell in love with Kiersten Crowley’s jewelry, Rachel Austin’s cards, Turtle Monkey Bug’s baby hats, Bunny with a Toolbelt’s birds, Machete Design’s delicate winter knits and Phoebe Owens’s slide lamps. And now, here’s a peek at what’s inside the package:

Yet another embroidered tea towel. I used an Aunt Martha’s Colonial pattern and the lighthouse theme is perfect for the owner’s of the beach house that we frequent. We’ve been at the coast for almost a week now (hence the lack of blogging) and the towel will fit perfectly with the Americana/nautical theme.

What have you been crafting lately? Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.
